Over the years, it has been such a joy to watch people prayerfully make plans and then watch God allow those plans to come to fruition…or even exceed the original goals. I’m excited about sharing tax efficient strategies of giving not just through their estate plans, but just as importantly while they are still living…supporting their local church and other ministries!

Hebrews 13:5 is such a powerful verse regarding money, contentment, and God. “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’” (ESV) Our gracious Lord with us is the greatest antidote to the love of money and discontentment. We have a loving Heavenly Father who has done so much for us. But His relationship and presence with us is remarkable.

There have been so many. God enabled me to start a financial planning firm, and it eventually became the Greenville office of BlueTrust. Along the way, God opened many doors to do seminars for employees at companies and church groups in the Upstate. Plus, for nearly 17 years, I had the privilege of hosting a weekly 1-hour live, call-in radio program. The radio program gave me a platform to share the knowledge learned as a Certified Financial Planner, Certified Kingdom Advisor, and Chartered Life Underwriter.

I am excited about the potential for individuals to simultaneously improve their family’s financial well-being and create more resources to assist in Christian ministries. It has been very gratifying over the years to assist clients in the accomplishment of these goals.

Hmmm…I would have to say 1 Timothy 5:8. Paul’s first letter to Timothy contains some very direct language laying out the financial responsibilities of believers when it says: “But those who won’t care for their relatives, especially those in their own household, have denied the true faith. Such people are worse than unbelievers.” (NLT) I take two things from this. First, we glorify God when we live financially responsible lives to take care of our families. Second, as Jesus’ life demonstrated, we should consider the word “family” very broadly, and we glorify God when we live financially responsible lives that allow us to use the resources God provides to be generous to others.

Initially, God provided very strong undergraduate, masters, and doctoral training in economics. In the corporate world, I had the privilege of shaping retirement programs for employees. Then, I moved from the corporate world to personally advising on investments for a financial planning firm in the Upstate. I also began advising individuals and couples. During my caareer, God brought various people into my advising sphere. Some had modest resources while others had millions of dollars. In addition, God also opened doors for teaching and doing workshops. All these experiences brought practical knowledge to combine with the wisdom of the Scriptures.

Wow, where do I begin? There are so many committed believers longing to be involved in what God is doing. But they often have fears regarding money—losing money, missing out on investments, not having enough in retirement, etc. It’s a privilege to share the Scriptures addressing those fears. Or, maybe someone learns a possible way to save on taxes and give more to the Lord’s work—possibly support translating God’s Word into a new language or helping a single parent pay for a car repair.

One would be Ephesians 2:4-5. “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, [5] even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved….” (ESV)

Generosity flows from recognizing God is so generous in His love and mercy toward us.

Since high school, God keeps replenishing resources as I have given them away to the local church, local good work or missions. After college, He provided a unique combination of fundraising for ministry, starting a business consulting firm, increasing my local church involvement, serving as a church lay leader, and then about 20 years of full-time pastoral ministry as an assistant followed by executive pastor. These diverse opportunities brought me into contact with young professionals, young families, business owners, widows, etc. all trying to live life for the glory of God while being tested about trusting and obeying God. It has been humbling to watch God do amazing things in people’s situations.
